How it Works

[The following is intended primarily for families seeking a tutor for their children. If you are an adult learner or a professional in the writing or publishing field and would like to proceed differently, please get in touch.]

What’s first?

After you contact me to describe your needs, we’ll agree on a mutually convenient time to meet for an initial consultation. There is no charge for the consultation. I can visit you in your home, or we can meet at a library or another place of your choosing.

The consultation will give your child and I an opportunity to get better acquainted. You’ll elaborate on your specific desires and vision for his or her academic future, and I’ll answer any questions you may have. We can then work together to make a list of goals, and I will describe how I think I can help.

What happens after we meet?

Shortly after our consultation, I will email you a customized tutoring plan, a suggestion for how I think we should proceed to ensure success for your son or daughter. Included will be my rates. If you decide to engage my services, you’ll let me know and we’ll begin scheduling sessions.

Is there any contract or obligation?

No. And there is no commitment necessary in terms of the number of tutoring sessions. We can start with one and move forward from there after you receive feedback from your child, or you can schedule a number of sessions in advance. I am focused on helping your student excel in whatever way I can.

How long is each tutoring session, and which days/times are you available?

A minimum of one hour is important so that your child and I can get into depth with the task(s) at hand. Depending on the student and his or her needs, sessions can last up to two hours. Tutoring can be scheduled seven days a week between the hours of 9:00am-10:00pm. For specific availability, please contact me to make arrangements.

How far are you willing to drive?

I live in Glenside, PA (19038), and tutor mostly in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. I prefer to limit each session’s commute to 30 minutes per way, but feel free to contact me if you live farther away and I will do what I can to accommodate. If you live significantly far away, one option is to meet me halfway for a tutoring session at a library or a place like Barnes & Noble. This has worked well in the past with students who found themselves able to stay focused in those environments.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

Life is unpredictable and everyone has a busy schedule these days. I am flexible and understanding. I ask only that you give me as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Call or text (once we trade numbers) or email.

What are your rates and what kinds of payment do you accept?

My rates are $30-$50/hr, competitively priced with other professionals who offer similar services. The age of the student, the level of the student, and the type of work involved determine the exact rate. Payment can be made by check at the session, or I can send you an electronic or paper bi-monthly itemized invoice. I can also accept payment through Paypal or Venmo.
